Data Hour (September)

Watch the Webinar

Barb returns to PowerToFly as a guest speaker in the “Data Hour” webinar. The first half of this “Data Hour” webinar consists of answers that Barb has for some general and more specific data analysis-related questions that the audience has.

Some of the audience questions in this webinar include: “What is the best data programming tool for beginners?”, “What pathway can I take to begin a career in data?”, and “How can I translate data for non-data teams?”. Barb goes into great detail to answer these questions along with visualizations. More specifically, Barb provides examples and explanations for data in AB testing and how one can determine if their data is statistically significant.

Barb gives some advice and insight for various data-related topics such as how to develop quantitative skills and which MOOC or ‘bootcamp’ she recommends along with numerous resources.

The webinar ends with a live Q&A between Barb and the audience and a live demonstration in R.

Intro To SQL

Watch the Webinar

PowerToFly has Barb on as a guest speaker in the “Intro to SQL” webinar. In this webinar, Barb answers various questions regarding SQL including: “What is SQL?”, “What kind of jobs use SQL?” and “What is a SQL query and what do I need to make one?”, followed by more specific questions that were asked live during the webinar.

Barb explains the difference between SQL, Excel, Tableau and other platforms used for data programming and visualization, and summarizes the 3 step process for data analysis. Barb provides some tips on how to get hands-on SQL practice and some examples for how one can make a transition from SQL queries to real-life projects in the workplace.

This webinar also contains a live, interactive demonstration for how to write a SQL query and filter data using the 3 principal SQL commands: SELECT, FROM, and WHERE, as well as JOIN, a command that many users find confusing to write and understand.

SQL is a great place to start for those who have never coded before!

Data Hour (July)

Barb returns to PowerToFly as a guest speaker for another “Data Hour” webinar. This “Data Hour” webinar consists of answers that Barb has for some general and more specific data analysis-related questions that the audience has.

In this webinar, Barb answers many questions about data visualisation such as some of her favorite tools for compiling data for visual presentations, the best colors to use, and the process she goes through for creating a dashboard. A recurring question that arose in both Data Hour webinars is the use of Tableau (as it is quite pricey), and leading, comparable platforms that can be used in place of it. Some other questions asked: “What is the most impactful data story you have told?”, “How do you integrate automated quality assurance into your process?”, and “What skill sets do I need to be credible in this line of work?”.

Barb goes into the difference between working as a data scientist and data analyst, two career paths that sound similar, but are very different in their skill sets and programs and languages required. She ends the webinar with some of the most useful ways that one can make themself more marketable and prepared in a data analytics career along with a variety of resources.

Data Chat

Barb returns to PowerToFly as a guest speaker, this time, for a “Data Hour” webinar. This webinar consists of answers that Barb has for some general and more specific data analysis-related questions that the audience has. What’s unique about these Data Hour webinars is that audience members are able to get specific answers to questions that likely do not have real answers on the internet, and with such detail.

Some of the audience questions include: “Which data pipelines do you prefer to work with?”, “What do I do if some of the columns in my data set have missing values?” and “What is the most basic to most sophisticated software to use for data input and extrapolation?” As part of this webinar, Barb walks through a detailed, live demonstration for how to write SQL queries in a Jupyer notebook to help an audience member who was having trouble doing so.

Barb describes the pros and cons of different programs and languages such as Excel, Python, Javascript, and R, that are used for a variety of data analysis-related career paths and explains which ones are better suited for said paths.

Data Visualization in Python Lunch + Learn

Data analytics expert, Barbara Donnini, joins PowerToFly as a guest speaker for a Python Visualization Seminar. This interactive seminar combines Python, Jupyter, and Pandas and focuses on visualizing and plotting.

Some tasks that audience members learn throughout the course of this webinar include: importing and loading data and coding line plots, bar plots, histograms, scatter plots, pie charts, and box plots, as well as in what situations these visualizations should be used. Audience members follow along with downloaded materials provided and are given the opportunity to guess the next steps in the visualization processes, and answer questions related to the material.

Before ending the seminar, Barb answers some pre-submitted Python-related questions such as: “How long does it take to master Python?”, “What are some of the most common and unusual uses of Python you have come across?”, and “What are the most popular Python visualizations that are used by marketing groups?”.

This is a very useful workshop for anyone interested in learning more about how to create data visualizations in Python!
